Well, the number of interrupts per second is really much higher than e.g. with
the fxp driver:

xl driver  TX:  13500 intrs/sec
           RX:  13800 intrs/sec

fxp driver TX:   5700 intrs/sec
           RX:   8500 intrs/sec 

David, could you perhaps send me your if_xl* files so I can test your
modifications here?
