Hi Lee,

It's relatively easy under FreeBSD - if you know where to
start.

I live in New Zealand, and connect to my ISP over a dial
up modem. To get it working after a standard install of
FreeBSD 4.3 I simply:

1. copied /usr/share/examples/ppp/ppp.conf.sample
to /etc/ppp/ppp.conf

2. Edited it to have my details (ISP phone number,
login/pass) in the "papchap" section (near the top
of the file I think).

3. Ran "ppp papchap", and got it to dial by typing
"dial" at the ppp interface.

That's it! It just worked first off for me.

Type "close" to terminate the link.

All that is done at the console/xterm. If you're using KDE
you can just use its Internet Dialer (kppp), which is
as easy to set up as Windows' dialup networking.

Best of luck,
Chris Pearce.
