I am seeing this at times in my development bhyve but I wasn't able to
pinpoint it to anything specific yet.

service wpa_supplicant restart wlan0

should be enough to get you out of this;  usually no need to throw away
the entire wireless interface and re-create it.  I would say in 19 of 20
times this happens that's doing the job for me;  there are times when I
have to do it twice.

Out of curiosity, was it warm restarts or cold boots from power off?
