Then hangs after Daemon arrives with a lot more garbage on the screen. The only ledgable error at the bottom left corner is 'Stack Overflow' (might also be 'error' but garbled). Boots with no problems or issues with FreeBSD 4.10-Release ISO CD with the above config. Remove the 3Ware controller and boot the 5.3-Release and all is fine.
