Hmmm if I may I'd like to say something....I've been looking at both your solutions to the problem and to me it six of one half a dozen of the other which i would use in that situation. mlduke showed a few things that I think i'll find useful how to update locate ( ever download a file then can't find it the next day or even that afternoon, I have. And then have you locate fail because the database is old) Shows me a little about piping and where binaries are found and string together a bunch of simple commands to get things done. And it works. (works is always good in my book) Your solution Doug is more elegant ( I can tell because I wasn't entirely sure how it worked so it must be real elegant. :-) ) and requires you know something about how packages are installed and what is kept in the files in individual subdirectories of the packages. you both gave me fodder for growth in freebsd. After that things started to sound a little pissy in my opinion. I think it could be just a little misunderstanding based on it being hard to convey emotion and intent in email. Emoticons can only go so far. or too much brevity leaving meaning in doubt. This is a forum for discussion, look what I can do, did ,or will do and i like it that way. Sometimes we stray into questions but we're newbies( I myself have been a newbie for 2 years.) If you guys are angry please squash it or clarify you points then squash it. We are all FRIENDLY strangers here. pax ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I hope that after I die, people will say of me : " That guy sure owed me a lot of money." -JH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Thu, 30 Mar 2000, Doug Barton wrote: > On Wed, 29 Mar 2000, mlduke wrote: > > > You missed the entire point. > > This was not for people who know--it is for those who do not. > > Your kind of stuff helps put a stop to similar stuff. > > ...unless I am the sender... > > You'll have to excuse me if I don't quite understand your > point.
