The other drive seems to have no problems at all, and wd2 seems to
have problems only when accessing certain areas of the disk:  The
problem can be reproduced consistently by copying from the same file
repeatedly.  I had interpreted this as an indication of hdwe failure,
but perhaps it just means the timing depends on the disk area in use?
