this is a little off the original topic because it mostly concerns i810 chipsets with Windoze, but I thought it might still be useful when I was still working as tech support for a remote control software maker a lot of users who called us had problems on machines with Intel 810 chips, and the stock advice at the time was to adjust hardware acceleration and color-depth settings for the video on the affected machine - I have to admit though it was only with later releases of the software we were supporting that we got to a very high success rate regardless of the graphic chip I would also try either disabling the master control for screen-blanking/screen-saving on the whole machine, or setup a keyboard shortcut to launch screen-blank/screen-save mode manually - I've used this myself to recover from strange black-screen problems when no amount of mouse or keyboard input would wake a monitor from power-save (for reasons I never fully understood), until I hit the shortcut and then tried input again, which would give me my screen back Jean-Mark Dupoux jmdupoux_@lineone.net To: freebsd-newbies@freebsd.org Subject: Problem with Intel 810 and XFree86 Send reply to: jgolin@excite.com From: "Greg Olin" <jgolin@excite.com> Copies to: Date sent: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 13:53:19 -0400 (EDT) [ Double-click this line for list subscription options ] I have a HP Pavilion 8756C which has an Intel 810e graphics chip. I installed FreeBSD 4.4 and XFree86 4.1. I built the agpgart driver and added the line to /boot/loader.conf. I also have an IBM P96 monitor, but when I run XFree86 -configure the monitor goes into powersave mode and I have to reboot the machine. If I use xf86config when I specify i810 as the video card then I get the same phenomena when I try to start X (actually there is a little flash of color, then the screen goes black, then the monitor goes into powersave mode). I am specifying the horizontal and vertical refressh ranges that came in the P96 documentation If I use the vga driver, I can get X started but the resolution is too high so I can only see a fraction of the desktop. I downloaded the latest BIOS and applied it, but it didn't change any of this behavior. I have done a lot of searches but can't seem to find anything that quite matches what I am seeing. Does anyone have any suggestions on things I can try?
