I've noticed further that the output of "apm" looks a bit funny:
$ apm
APM version: 1.2
APM Managment: Enabled
AC Line status: on-line
Battery status: charging
Remaining battery life: invalid value (0xffffffff)
Remaining battery time: unknown
Number of batteries: 2
Battery 0:
         Battery status: not present
Battery 1:
         Battery status: not present
Resume timer: Thu Jan  1 00:59:59 1970
Resume on ring indicator: disabled
APM Capabilities:
         unknown
Before the update it reported one of the batteries to be present (#0 if
I remember correctly).
Regards
