I do not consider the change itself necessary, but someone did, and chose to express his opinion in such a confrontational manner that I find it hard to regard him as a constructive contributor. A more elaborate explanation is that the commit was made to comply with one of the many arbitrary and idiosyncratic conventions that make working on the ports collection such a frustrating experience for many of us. I've been in so many flame wars over so much unecessary brokenness in the ports system over time that I've restricted my involvment in the ports collection to a strict minimum, and it will remain that way until TPTB demonstrate a willingness to fix broken tools instead of just adopting policies that shuffle such brokenness under the carpet, and refusing to acknowledge the existence and value of tools such as porteasy.
