Call me old fashioned, but I personally prefer external modems mostly
because I can save one slot for something more important. If the AC
adapter dies, then I hack one together.

I think it's kind of wasteful to use up a PCI slot if all it needs to do
is transfer a maximum of 115.2Kbps over the bus.
