After a bit of chatting with Diane Bruce on the usual IRC place, I've
rolled a small script that checks www/en/news/press.xml for dead
links.  You can see how I try to test the links semi-automatically at
the script's source

Those links that are marked in the logfile created as FAILED, I try to
check with a browser too, just in case fetch(1) fails but the page is
still there.  The recent commits to www/en/news/press.xml are a result
of running this and verifying that the links are broken.

Some of the articles referenced are still there, but have been moved
by the site owners to their "archives".  When I cna find an article in
these archives, I just update the link.  For those links that I remove
with "Cannot be found, even if I search the archives of the site" feel
free to correct me by reviving the article links and updating the
links, if you happen to find the correct pointer.
