Hi! I am unable to install 4.6-RELEASE from CD-ROM. I boot allright, go into the installer, configure the installation and then after the new file systems are created and the installer is attempting to extract the 'bin' distribution into the '/' root directory reading from the CD-ROM stops... The virtual tty 2 shows amongst its messages, acd0: READ_BIG Command timeout -- resetting ata1: resetting devices also I seem to remember there was another message such as "-ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=0x20 ascq=0x00 err=0x00" on acd0... sorry, I didn't write it completely. below is my dmesg log. My CD-RW unit is a generic ATAPI CD/RW 8x4x32 that worked fine with FreeBSD 4,5 and previous releases. I was able to do a network install and find that the CD-RW units appears functional -- was able to burn a CD for example. So the problem seems to be attempting to do a fresh install of FreeBSD 4.6. The CD-ROM unit is configured on an ASUS motherboard with TYPE [CD-ROM], PIO mode [4] and ULTRA DMA Mode [Disabled]. Works fine with Windows and Linux of course. atacontrol list outputs, ATA channel 0: Master: ad0 <IBM-DTLA-307020/TX3OA60A> ATA/ATAPI rev 5 Slave: no device present ATA channel 1: Master: acd0 <8X4X32/5.EZ> ATA/ATAPI rev 0 Slave: no device present Any parameters that could be changed at install time to be able to install 4.6 from CD-ROM on my system? -- Denis --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (c) 1992-2002 The FreeBSD Project.
