Subject: disabling ftp progress meter

Now that I'm running 2.2.6 I get this clever new progress meter
with the ftp client. But this causes the emacs ange-ftp package
to behave abnormally.

There is a "progress" toggle command, but no command line option.
"-V" is supposed to turn of verbose output, but the progress meter --
which is surely verbose -- remains on. (I claim this is a bug.)

Anyone have a fix for this -- either a way to not use the progress
meter by default or a way to set up ange-ftp to issue the "progress"
command?

thanks.
