Applied Crypto is basically a text book on crypto algorithms. There are a few interesting sections, but the majority of it is simply explanations and code for algorithms. Tons of algorithms, I should specify. So, if you're looking to learn about the history of crypto, get the former book. If you're implementing some crypto system, get the latter.
