Seriously. I can see adding a warning, but restricting people completely is another story. One of the main reasons I run FreeBSD is the flexability it provides me compared to other operating systems. Even if that's the flexability to shoot myself in the foot. FWIW, I've never had a problem with anything I've compiled with "-O2", but I guess I'm just lucky, eh? -Chris -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of Brad Knowles Sent: Wednesday, March 22, 2000 6:17 PM To: obrien@FreeBSD.ORG; Howard Leadmon Cc: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG; freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Compiler problems with -O2 (was Re: CVS Trouble, even under 4.0-RELEASE (alpha) HELP!) Can I put in -O39696943125454932 and you'll save me from myself on that, too? ;-) Seriously, I have to wonder why people can't take the recommendation that you should use nothing more than -O, and that anything more is only likely to increase your probability of crashing, toasting the system, etc.... I'm sorry, at best here we're talking a few tenths of a percentage point of increased speed (if that), and maybe a few milliseconds saved -- right? -- These are my opinions -- not to be taken as official Skynet policy ====================================================================== Brad Knowles, <blk@skynet.be> || Belgacom Skynet SA/NV Systems Architect, Mail/News/FTP/Proxy Admin || Rue Colonel Bourg, 124 Phone/Fax: +32-2-706.13.11/12.49 || B-1140 Brussels http://www.skynet.be || Belgium To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message
