How does apache tell you that it wants DES? It does, but only for the .htaccess stuff, it'll build and run just fine without DES aside from .htaccess. Also, there's no install target in the Makefile, well there is a no-op one in 1.3.x, didn't used to be any at all. Where did you get the source you were building from ?
