On the interjet we have a 128x64 bit LCD as the 'console'
we have a module that we link in with a SYSINIT entry
soitidoesn't need any patches anwhere else..
it just throws up a bitmap of our logo.

it wouldn't be hard to do similar for a screen
it just needs to be an appropriatly compressed file..
and an 'expander'.. 
of course I wouldn't want that bloat in MY system, but yes..
