Yes, it is a port of NetBSD's rc sytem as mentioned here: http://home.pacbell.net/makonnen/rcng.html . David O'Brien said a while back that he and some others were willing to make sure they stayed in sync. That's the only reason I made the effort to set it up so that it would be somewhat easy to do.
