You don't need to maually add the su-permitted user to the group 'wheel' 
in /etc/group.
That's what 'adduser' does for you if you, like you said, invite the user to 
group wheel.
I don't understand the problem but I guess you made an error when 
(unneccessarily) editing /etc/group.
