=3E Hi=2C
=3E
=3E I have a number of 9=2E0-R boxes=2C some of which I=27ve updated in the=
 past=20
=3E to 9=2E0-STABLE =28as of the date they were done=29=2E
=3E
=3E I=27m looking at switching to =27freebsd-update=27 - is there an equiva=
lent=20
=3E way to get it to update me to =27-STABLE=27=3F

freebsd-update works for RELEASE=2C BETA and RELEASE CANDIDATES=2C the=20=

latter two when announced so=2E
This means you can use freebsd-update to go from 9=2E0-RELEASE to 9=2E1-RC3=
=2E
You wil have to be on RELEASE or RC to be able to do so=2E
=3E
=3E i=2Ee=2E If I run this on a 9=2E0-RELEASE box=2C I end up with 9=2E0-RE=
LEASE-p4=20
=3E =28even though uname says =27-p3=27 - it=27s apparently -p4=2E

This is because form p3 to p4 the kernel has not been modified and the=20=

last p=23 from newvers=2Esh is not shown unless you rebuild your kernel=2E=

=3E
=3E I=27m guessing that=27s not the same as if I=27d csup=27d to 9=2E0-STAB=
LE on=20
=3E that day=2C and rebuilt the world=3F

Right=2C it is not the same=2E 9=2E0-STABLE is at 9=2E1-PRERELEASE=2E
=3E
=3E I=27d also guess freebsd-update will bring up some more queries / info=
=20
=3E if it has to merge any config files =28I seem to have been lucky going=
=20
=3E from 9=2E0-R to 9=2E0-R-p4 nothings been displayed other than =27comple=
ted=27=20
=3E - unless I=27m doing something wrong =3A=29=2E

When going to a new RELEASE you will be prompted=2E Within the same=20
release I have not seen yet that configuration files get changed=2E
=3E
=3E Also=2C does freebsd-update warn you if you need to reboot/rebuild=20=

=3E anything =28e=2Eg=2E the kernel / userland or anything=3F=29

Yes it warns you when you have a cutom kernel=2E There is no need to=20
rebuild world or the GENERIC kernel =28unless you want the p=23 to reflect=
=20
the actual patchlevel=29=2C because freebsd-update takes care of the=20
binaries and the sources also when installed=2E The whole process is very=
=20
well documented in the handbook=2E
http=3A//www=2Efreebsd=2Eorg/doc/en=5FUS=2EISO8859-1/books/handbook/updatin=
g-upgrading-freebsdupdate=2Ehtml
