Are the file systems on BSDI and FreeBSD the same? Can I for instance
install FreeBSD on a root disk and mount my current BSD/OS formatted
news drives? How about the other way around?
I have news machines from two different companies which have combined
under my control now and I'd like to standardize on one OS.

Also, the FreeBSD box I have inherited has had problems for quite some
time, rebooting itself once a week or so. It's running 2.1.0-RELEASE
FreeBSD and both the motherboard and the Adaptec 2940 controller have
been replaced at various times to try to track down the problem. Dmesg
reports the following after the system reboots. These reports are
spread over months of time, but very similar. I suspect flaky hardware,
but can someone suggest what this error might be caused by? They tried
upgrading the kernel to one of the stable releases in the early summer but
within 2 hours of running the machine panic'ed and trashed all the file
systems on sd0 so they've been rather hesitant to try that again.
