I've got 2 machines, both running 2.2-GAMMA , and configured with NIS NIS works well enough for logging in - users can log into my ascend through radius, which uses the passwd files for authentication. Users can also log into either server, one of which is just a NIS client. Problem: when running passwd, I sometimes get 'passwd: permission denied' (the permissions are fine). Some other times, it works, but fails to change the password, saying something about failing because RPC couldn't decode arguements. (no clue on this one). At other times (rarely), passwd works fine from both machines, and updates the NIS database just fine. Has anyone else seen behavior such as this? Any ideas on what I should look for? Thanks in advanced for any help, --Troy
