OK, sorry I misunderstood that restore worked from dump files without -L.... I wonder if the original poster just needs to do an fsck on the disk. The only time I had dump crap out on me (other than with -L) was on a dirty filesystem. I regularly do stuff like cd /usr;dump 0f - /usr | (cd /tmp/usr; restore -rf - ) to duplicate partitions ---Mike
