Based on some suggestions by a user, I've added the following to the top of rc.syscons: # Handle diskless boots, and other situations where syscons is not present # if [ ! -c "${kbddev}" ]; then exit 0 fi As far as I can tell, this should be safe, but if anyone comes across wackiness, please let me know.
