I think their database is already larger than Terraserver (don't let that reference put you off, try it - there is absolutely *no* comparison :-) and growing. Details of the Berkeley CS Tertiary Disk project that it runs on are at http://now.cs.berkeley.edu/Td/ (follow 'architecture of our prototype' link for the rather impressive pictures, OS and hardware details - for anyone interested, they use FreeBSD-current on 20x P6-200's, 98mb ram each, two PC's to a SCSI chain, and 370 8gb disks...)
