We have two internal DNS servers in a FreeBSD web cluster. If the first DNS server fails then after a timeout period the client's resolver will try the second DNS server. This works fine, but is a bit slow. It looks like the timeout takes 10 to 15 seconds on FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE. Is there a way to override this timeout value? I know it is possible on other UNIX systems, such as AIX. Basically, we want to get a response within 3 seconds or the resolver should try the second DNS server.
