FreeBSD should run on a DL380 just fine.  The RAID controller is the
only thing you might have trouble with, but as of a few days ago,
STABLE now supports the Compaq SmartArray 5* series (ciss driver).
If that was your problem with running FreeBSD on it, try a recent
STABLE snapshot.
