No, you can have the same problem with other chipsets.  According to
Netgear docs (the one on the floppy provided with the card) you must use
a PCI slot supporting Bus Mastering, so the problem should occur on
other OS.

It's "at least" in the Handbook :)
I will try to see what can I do on various NIC chipset drivers manual
pages since the problem is not specific to sis(4).
