(In theory) Ah, I see. This indeed makes quite a difference. FWIW Symbios has a similar 'bridge' chip. That one was jointly developed by Digital & Symbios. It is in use all over the place in the Digital ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Compaq Storageworks Ultra SCSI equipment.
