Couldn't find the mail I was thinking of, but take a look at: http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/680/2000/2/0/3282410/ From reading through the dri-devel archives, it looks like Doug Rabson has done some work on the FreeBSD port, but apparently doesn't have much time to work on it due to other commitments.
