The linux product you are referring to is called "mars", I'm sure with a bit of work it could be ported to FreeBSD, or it may even run under Linux Emulation. I've used it in a linux environment with very good results. Another thing to consider it to use IntraNetware, which if my memory serves me right can provide functionality for unix based clients.
