But porting to Free/NetBSD is practically a done deal if you've
already got working code for BSD/OS. It would be a lot more work
getting it running under Linux.

Feel free. I've got both the FreeBSD and Apache logo badges on my
home page at http://www.io.org/~taob/. This site is significantly
faster than my old one in Taiwan (except for Taiwanese users). ;-)
