Go and read the doc/install.txt file -- it *explicitly* mentions
this anti-social behavior, it mentions that it can be bypassed,
but there is no indication that this can be done programmatically
(ie: stuffing in a new patch in files/)

Until the authors either respond to my requests for information
about this, or they "magically" fix it in a new release. there's
very little else that can be done.
