I just started running a 3ware 7000 2 channel ATA RAID card that is working fine. Obviously, this would not work in your situation though. I have used the Adaptec 2400A ATA RAID card with good results. It is a 4 channel card though. I have only used the 2400A doing RAID 1. RAID 5 or other RAID levels may not work as well. I don't know.
