One the machine with SK NICS: ifconfig carp0 create ifconfig carp0 192.168.1.1/24 ifconfig carp0 advskew 25 On the second machine: ifconfig carp0 create ifconfig carp0 192.168.1.1/24 ifconfig carp0 advskew 254 Notice the machine with the lower advskew is BACKUP.
