i have a couple users on my box and they was haveing the same issues and
what it wound up being is that they was useing an older ver of putty.. i had
them d/l the new ver and all was fine  .. no more time outs
ner ver of putty is 0.56
hope this helps you , it helped out my users after upgrade to 5.3
