OK, I did the stated elf upgrade:

cvsup from today
make aout-to-elf-build (no errors)
make aout-to-elf-install (no errors)
reboot

startx now results in:

ld.so failed: Can't find shared library "libXmu.so.6.0"

Since X is kind of important to me any pointers on what to do next?
