I’ve installed FreeBSD 10.1 RELEASE on a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver. It seems to work reasonably well, but the pkg command seems to have a problem finding its repositories… Am I doing something wrong?

> [root@grey ~]# pkg search port
> pkg: Repository FreeBSD missing. 'pkg update' required
> pkg: http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/FreeBSD:10:powerpc/latest/meta.txz: Not Found
> pkg: http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/FreeBSD:10:powerpc/latest/packagesite.txz: Not Found
> pkg: Repository FreeBSD cannot be opened. 'pkg update' required

> [root@grey ~]# env
> HOST=grey.rcthomas.org
> SHELL=/bin/csh
> TERM=xterm-256color
> GROUP=wheel
> USER=root
> HOSTTYPE=FreeBSD
> PAGER=more
> PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/root/bin
> MAIL=/var/mail/root
> BLOCKSIZE=K
> PWD=/root
> EDITOR=vi

Compiling ports takes *lots* of time on this decade old machine (700MHz, single core, 1GB RAM) — not fun!

Thanks!
Rick
