You should check out and post on comp.periphs.printer -- you will be able to get more detailed answers from various printer company folks + pointers to their URLs. c.p.p is still reasonably sane and has a high S/N ratio (for a usenet group). Pretty much any printer with a parallel/serial port will work with *BSD so if you want the best printer that meets your criteria, ask on c.p.p. [My criteria? PostScript support, double sided printing, 1200dpi, PCL support, higher speed, Color. In that order]
