I'm not sure what the exact cause is. I do know that lookup of the
localhostname fails because it's not in /etc/host, but that shouldn't be

That seems to be default on FreeBSD 4.9.

BTW, I recompiled the source code of the java project I'm working on,
and now suddenly the problem is gone. (I'm using eclispe from the port).
Still, a VM crash shouldn't be possible should it?
