Soren,

Your diff permitted my Dell 4150 laptop to boot.  I have
ad0 on ata0-master and acd0 on ata1-master.  I still get
the "ata1-slave: TIMEOUT - ATAPI_IDENTIFY" message.  If
you're not keeping score, 3 different brands on laptops
appear to be effected by this problem.
