If you think the GS fonts are crap, and just want the basic font set
that all PS printers have (Times, Helvetica, etc.), buy Adobe Type
Manager (ATM) for Win95 (preferably the CDROM) from Adobe for $49,
which gives you the basic 17 fonts + 13 other fonts. There's also the
Bitstream 500 Font CD for < $50 (although I don't think the metrics
are a perfect match between Bitstream's Swiss & Dutch (equivalent to
Helvetica & Times, respectively), or even the Corel Mega Gallery,
~$69, which contains 1000 fonts including nearly all of the Bitstream
500 font CD + another 350 Bitstream fonts. If you've got Corel Draw 4
or greater, it's got all the fonts in the Bitstream 500 font CD, too.
If you use the Bitstream fonts, you just need to alias them properly.

For that matter, if you go to computer liquidation sales, ham fests,
and the like, you can often pick up the OEM ATM packages which have
been separated from various PS printers for cheap (<$10). These
packages have all of the fonts that are standard in the printer, which
is usually the 17 or 35 basic fonts in a PS printer.
