foo module which by convention is foo.ko)

from loader.conf(5):

     *_load        If set to =E2=80=9CYES=E2=80=9D, that module will be loa=
ded.  If no name is
                   defined (see below), the module's name is taken to be the
                   same as the prefix.

So, yes, it is documented.
