It turned out to be the video driver I w= as using. I was advised to try the VESA driver in the config file, and that seemed to work for me. I would agree with David Johnson - command line is the best way to config, I never could get that gui interface working properly anyhow :).=0D =0D Andrew Kozak =0D =0D -------Original Message-------=0D =0D From: Johnson David=0D Date: Friday, 10 October 2003 03:48:49 AM=0D To: Talbot; freebsd-newbies@freebsd.org=0D Subject: Re:=0D =0D On Thursday 09 October 2003 08:07 am, Talbot wrote:=0D > Greetings=0D > I recently installed FreeBSD 4.5 with desk top KDE using a CD that=0D > came with the book, FreeBSD Unleashed, by Michael Urban and Brian=0D > Tiemann. Your problem is that=0D you have a "virtual desktop", one that is larger than the size of your=0D screen. This is the unfortunate default.=0D =0D My preferred method of configuring XFree86 is to first run "XFree86=0D -configure" to detect the video card and monitor. That's only to get=0D this information. Then I run the command line configuration utility,=0D xf86config, manually. Answer all of the questions. Then when it comes=0D to display modes, make sure you select and appropriate display size,=0D and then answer NO to "Do you want a virtual screen that is larger than=0D the physical screen?".=0D =0D Then once you get a XF86Config file that works, SAVE IT!=0D =0D But read the handbook first.=0D =0D David=0D _______________________________________________=0D freebsd-newbies@freebsd.org mailing list=0D http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-newbies=0D To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-newbies-unsubscribe@freebsd.org= "=0D =0D =2E --------------Boundary-00=_TNOIG6G0000000000000--
