I tested the <Kingston DataTraveler 3.0> USB stick on Ubuntu 18.04 (Linux)
on the same system (AMD Ryzen 5 2600, SRock B450 Gaming-ITX/ac) to make sure
that the problem is not due to the hardware.

The command

    time rsync -av /lib /mnt/ext4-on-usb-3.0/

achieves a throughput of 66 MB/s.

So the hardware is not the problem.
