The following reply was made to PR kern/120253; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Volker <volker@vwsoft.com> To: bug-followup@FreeBSD.org, nudge.goonies@freenet.de Cc: Subject: Re: kern/120253: kernel crashes after hard disk geometry while probing devices displayed (regression) Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2008 17:02:38 +0100 Andreas, this is one of the sort being hard to give any hints, as at least some information is needed. Can you try and check your RAM using memtest and see if RAM is bad? If that has been checked, I suggest you to grab a live-cd (try 7.0 livefs CD also FreeSBIE - still on 6.x - might do it for you) and check whether it will boot fine. Try running sysinstall from the live-cd. If it will abort, please provide the exact error message. Also please try to grab a verbose boot dmesg and post it. This may require you to have a live cd and a USB stick (boot from live cd, mount USB memory stick and put output of `dmesg -a', `pciconf -lv', `devinfo -rv' onto the memory stick). Also show us output of `fdisk'. Please post all infos but first make sure, your RAM is fine. Did you experience same trouble with 6.3? If nothing helps, you can try to take as much hardware out of the box as possible and see if the fault does not occour anymore. I really suspect it being a hardware fault. You may probably want to check the FAQ: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/faq/install.html
