Just to keep these threads short; FreeBSD's core team is talking with Darren Reed to ensure that we understand his position. There's likely to be a more formal announcement on the subject shortly, but in the meantime I'd like to ask people not to panic, or to say or do anything silly. The goal here is to work out something sensible, and the best way for us to achieve this is for everyone to stay calm. I think that -core has a good idea of what the FreeBSD community would like to see out of IPFilter, and I'm confident that we can resolve this without any untoward drama. Thanks for your patience until then. Regards, Mike (not speaking officially for -core) > >From Theo (OpenBSD): > > "sometime in the next 20 hours, i will be removing ipf from the source > tree since it does not meet our freedom requirements, as have been > outlined in policy.html and goals.html since the start of our project. > > we will have to work on an alternative." > > I've used netfilter/iptables (Linux 2.4 and on) fairly extensively, and > it seems to be a good ipf-alike. > > > -- > Jonathan Graehl > http://jonathan.graehl.org/ > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-arch" in the body of the message -- ... every activity meets with opposition, everyone who acts has his rivals and unfortunately opponents also. But not because people want to be opponents, rather because the tasks and relationships force people to take different points of view.
