I'm running current up to date. Recently, besides the games and ctype.h
breakage I've noticed something that may be something maybe not.

Some time ago I built john (the ripper) to play with password cracking.
Ever now and then I would start it up working on a local password file.
I knew it took up a lot of resources but never really noticed it running before.
Lately, if I started it up my console response went to the basement. Echo
time for a character from keyboard to screen is something 3-5 seconds. This
is with a nice of 20.

Walking a find through /usr gives 10:18.29 with john running and 5:37.04
with it not running. This doesn't seem so drastic as the console behavior.
BTW I'm running pcvt.

Maybe someone with the time would care to replicate this. Is this bad
performance or what?

Tom
