All it does is to copy the already built wheel in a cache directory. The entire STAGEDIR is unaffected. It is -- at the end -- a free byproduct. Doing what you are proposing would require to built another toolset mostly duplicating the work already done by the ports system. Why reinvent the wheel (no pun intended)?
