Yes, I know, but "but I am seriously baffled by how difficult (nearly
impossible) it had been to get rid of the serial console" as it says in
one message.

To be able to use the instructions in the link you need (if you use 12)
to figure out where those files are now (because they moved or does not
exist) and try to guess which of all the new files to patch.

As I said, I'm not a developer, I am a user and not very well versed in
source code.

That is why I filed 229976.
